Used to watch Murt drive it at York Drag strip in the late 70's!

Andrew

is that a Ford D-series?

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread there! Yes it is a D series, the first purpose built drag race truck in the UK, I think it did something like 17 second quarter mile timesAngel (York used to run regular truck drags in and amongst the other stuff). So Howard, no chance of a D series then?Angel

Yes I saw that Fordat york and a few other places and it was the Bullit, I also saw when he put a jet engine on it at Truck fest one year but we are concerned with Tyrone Malone's trucks big KWs and that was a "BANDIT" and his transporter was the "Hideout"
I recently met the guy who drove the Papa Truck around Europe and told some strories then He told how Tyrone fell asleep at the wheel and died in the accident on the way back from a show

Hi Ted,

I would be interested in a set of decals for the Boss, I was unsure which way to go with renovating it. This would help a lot if you have some, thanks;

I will look the sheet out tomorrow John and if it is still good you can have it but I don't have decals for the Papa truck sorry.

Use Fairey Power spray on the model to get rid of the paint will bring the plastic up like new.

To avoid any further confusion over Bandits and Bullits these are the AMT kits from the seventies

I sold these some time ago

I have used Fairy Power spray to strip the paint and decals. I sprayed 1 coat and left for 1 hour and then scrubbed with a tooth brush(I better not get mixed up with the one I used'oh!). All the paint come off quite easily, I will give the cab another spray to see if the stains can come off, but I think they are embedded into the plastic now.

Thanks to Ted Taylor for this tip.

Glad you found it works good John but you only have to leave it a few minutes and do not let it dry out, of course make sure you use your Marigolds as it is caustic.
It wont move stains and you don't need to just use a satin white undercoat then a thin gloss coat using an airbrush.

PM inbound for you John

The transporter body has the head board missing so I have had to scratch build a new one. I drew onto plasticard the parts I needed:

I cut these out by scoring along the lines. Next picture shows all the parts cut out for the top part of the head board:

This is the head board assembled, just needs smoothed to shape.

Last picture shows how it will look on the transporter body:

Looks good - I think the streak of blood up the wall in the last pic says it all!

Just updating on this build. I have been busy at work so progress has been slow.
I have painted the cab and started to put new decals on. So here is a picture of this.

Superb! I find it hard to belive you have got the cab looking that crisp and clean form the piece of poo that was sent to you!

Must have missed the update on the scratchbuilt bulkhead, but it looks fantastic, nice work John.

P.S - Did you get the e-mail I sent you with my adress?

Are these decals somewhere available? I also have one to restore, but kept it waiting because of the decals.

Peter this was quite easy to do, the other one will be far harder to do as you will see.

If you email Roger he will do some decals for you.

Some detail painting on the tyres.

This is one side done with the decals. I will leave these to fully dry before doing the other side incase they move.
