O.K. guys, time to join in the fun. I'm going for a series 2 6x2 tractor. I'm going to convert the cab from the mega-space to the lower long distance cab, not sure about livery yet but i never usually am when i start a new project. I'll be doing this along side the Turbostar i have on the go at the moment. So far the chassis has been stretched to 3.9m wheelbase, 163mm approx in scale, and some cutting of the cab panels.

Chassis extensions made from card and strip

More pics to come.

Tom would you please take plenty of pictures, especially of cutting the cab down, I have exactly the same build in mind when I'm a bit more confident with chopping stuff around

Cant wait to see the finished result

Andrew, yes i was going to take plenty of photos of the cab any way. I've got two cabs so i will photograph the modified parts next to the originals so you can see what is happening. I've done the mark 1 cab before but this will be more tricky, specialy the wheel arches - bring it on ! You thinking of doing an Eldiss by any chance ?

Well guessed Tom, I am indeed. Do you plan to put a roof spoiler on it?

Snowman, the chassis is extended by 13mm, Andrew i was thinking about a roof spoiler, ive got a spare Volvo item but this doesn't seem square enough so i'm not sure at the moment. Some more pictures of the cab now.
The back panel first, this has 11mm removed from the bottom.

The side panel has had the wheel arch removed then reduced in height. The wheel arch has been reshaped and the bottom bit attached to create a complete arch and step set up.

The front bumper has been reduced in height also. It was cut just above the headlights and the top corners cut off and brought down and re-fitted. The grille has been reduced in height by one section - not strictly correct cos the badge is not in the right place now but neer enough for meAngel

Tom the plans I have show that the 6x2 is 300mm longer both in front of and behind the drive axle. Ie the wheelbase is 300mm longer and so is the measurement from drive axle to the rear end of the chassis. Do yours not show that? You might find your air tanks don't fit!

See my pic for where I cut mine.

I don't know what Actros kit you are using Tom but I just extended the Revell 1854 (the one reduced from Modelzone) by 12mm, I see you went for a mm more, either way the air tanks fit okay so I can't understand why you extended in two places Wolfie unless your base kit was different. I also used the spare air bag suspension from this kit to make up the second axle which was made from square tube instead of using another front axle I might need for something else. Interesting to see how others have gone about the same job.

Yeah I think mines different. Its Revell but its an MP1 and doesn't have provision for the airtanks and battery etc at the back. The box lid is at the top of my build thread.

Spec sheets here

Yeah I see what you have done now I've looked at the other MP1 kit I have, shame you've made it hard for yourself with that kit, the MP2 kit has the chassis in two sections so its easier to add the extention, the rear air suspension is different too hence the spare bits in the MP2 box. I also didn't realise the rear wings were different but I've jioned them anyway after a bit of tweaking.

Well actually it wasn't too hard. I have a derelict MP2 I'm using as a donor and I cut that tail off lock stock and barrel and grafted it on at the required spot!

Guys, the kit i am using has two alternative chassis ends with the kit, Wolfie yours must be the Mk1 ( mp1 ? ) i am guessing.I never looked at the data sheets to closely i must confess, i just made mine 3.9m wheelbase. Nos, i am going to do the same as you and use the spare suspension to get the air bags and make an axle from square tube. Ive done this before with a turbostar, but the axle has to be stepped so as not to foul the prop. Thanks for the interest lads.

O.K. some more progress on this, been tied up with work of late so not much progress but back in to it now. I have made an engine hump on the kit floor, wasn't to sure about this cos i had no photos to work from so i raised the floor in the middle to be level with the bottom of the dash - does it for me.

Next some work on the mid axle, i am using some trailer suspension from an Italeri curtainsider and some scrap sprue for the axle.

The suspension hanger brackets have been reduced in height by 4mm. The scrap sprue is being used cos it has the dip in it to clear the prop.

Looking really good so far. Ingenious use of the sprue.

Be a hard call to pic a winner from this lot.
