However, M&G's white metal set is not a spread tandem -- it's the close-coupled variety (at least, the sets I got off Mick are).

hi mate, a rocking horse you say! I've got an unstarted gruber canvas trailer chassis still in the box, I got it a few years ago and also managed to get the 40ft container trailer too. I've got plans for both but I'd swap my tandem spread for a tri axle set up if that's any use? Thanks harryvr6.

hi harryvr6

he says yes mate you've got a deal, he's got a tri axle set up so a swap would be spot on. he says will pay the postage for both sets to be sent.

here's my e-mail gb3international at tiscali dot co dot uk, send me your details & we can sort it out.

many thanks mate,
gaz

Hi gaz, the only concern I have is that as I'm not much of an expert! Is it best to go through the instruction sheet and hand pick all the relevent parts of the tandem set up and parcel them up? I could photocopy my instruction sheet and send that too?
Would the tri axle set up be sent in a similar way? The other alternative would be to include the chassis or am I wide of the mark?! I'll pm you with my details soon, thanks harryvr6.

Harry,

The spread-axle system is partially molded onto the chassis, so it would be best to send the whole chassis (including the cross members and all that stuff). Of course that would mean that GB's friend would have to do the same. I recommend exchanging photos first so that each person knows what they'll be getting, as the chassis are quite different.

The whole chassis is different, the Gruber runs on duel wheels which are wider, and has a narrower chassis to accommodate them, and the other one runs on super singles, and has a wider chassis, so they are different in the width between cross members, length, and depth of rails. The axles are also different lengths, and the suspension mounting points will also be incorrect.
The floor pan isn't interchangeable either, the only way to do it with out both parties getting up set is to swap complete kits. Also the chassis flitch plates would all be in the wrong places as one would be for a center load tandem set up, and the other for a tri set up.

That depends Jeff. The old Cardi triaxle setup was originally for dual wheels, so is the same width as the Gruber kit. Both kits are also 40-footers. The bodies are interchangeable on the chassis -- I have done it myself.

Yes Brendan they are the same and thats about the only swap that would work, I thought the exchange was for a later tri on air, not so good!
